Mirko Maksimainen obtained a M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Joensuu in 2008 and Ph.D. from the University of Eastern Finland in 2012 under the supervision of Juha Rouvinen. Currently, he is a post-doc in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Eastern Finland. He has determinated the crystal structures of Trichoderma reesei (GH35) , Aspergillus oryzae (GH35)  and Bacillus circulans sp. alkalophilus (GH42)  β-galactosidases.
