In 1980 he got a position of as Assistant Professor to the Research Institute for Food Science, Kyoto University and now is the Professor in Laboratory of Applied Structural Biology, Division of Applied Life Science, Graduate School of Agricuture, Kyoto University. During this time he has spent sabbatical leave at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY, USA. His research interests concern mechanisms of amylases and several food related enzymes, particularly on the basis of their behaviors in the crystals examined by X-ray crystallography.
