Ed Bayer is a full professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel. During his scientific career, he has pioneered two separate areas of research: avidin-biotin technology and the field of cellulosomes with [http://www.tau.ac.il/lifesci/departments/biotech/members/lamed/lamed.html Prof. Raffi Lamed] of Tel Aviv University.

Ed was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Michigan in 1969, a Master’s Degree in Biology from Wayne State University (Detroit, Michigan) in 1971, and a Ph.D. Degree in Biophysics from The Weizmann Institute of Science in 1976 under the supervision of Prof. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meir_Wilchek Meir Wilchek].

He continues to explore all aspects of cellulosome composition, structure, biochemistry, evolution and function.
