CAZypedia needs your input! We have many unassigned GH, PL, CE, AA, GT, and CBM pages in need of Authors and Responsible Curators.
Scientists at all career stages, including students, are welcome to contribute to CAZypedia. Read more here, and in the 10th anniversary article in Glycobiology.

Glycoside Hydrolase Family 61
This page has been approved by the Responsible Curator as essentially complete. CAZypedia is a living document, so further improvement of this page is still possible. If you would like to suggest an addition or correction, please contact the page's Responsible Curator directly by e-mail.
This family has been deleted from the CAZy classification. A specific explanation may be found below.
GH61 is a deleted family
The enzymes in this family were originally classified as a glycoside hydrolases (GH61) based on very weak endo-1,4-beta-D-glucanase activity in one family member. They are now reclassified into Auxiliary Activity Family 9 in CAZy [1]. AA9 proteins are copper-dependent lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs); cleavage of cellulose chains with oxidation of various carbons (C-1, C-4 and C-6) has been reported several times in the literature (see [2] and references therein).
