CAZypedia was initiated in 2007, based upon an idea of Professor Emeritus [[Bruce Stone]], LaTrobe University, Australia, to produce a comprehensive encyclopedia of the enzymes that synthesize and degrade carbohydrates.  CAZypedia is inspired by, and closely connected with, the [http://www.cazy.org CAZy Database] maintained by Bernard Henrissat, Pedro Coutinho and collegues.
