Mirko Maksimainen obtained a MSc in Organic Chemistry from the University of Joensuu in 2008, Currently, he is a reseacher and a PhD student in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Eastern Finland. Under the supervision of Prof. ^^^Juha Rouvinen^^^, he works on β-galactosidases from families GH35 and GH42. He has determinated the crystal structures of Trichoderma reesei (GH35) [1] and Bacillus circulans sp. alkalophilus (GH42) [2] β-galactosidases.
